Fran originally came to The Alfred in 2010 after moving from Ireland. He completed his advanced training in emergency medicine and in 2015 became a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at The Alfred Emergency & Trauma Centre as well as a consultant appointment with The Alfred Trauma Service.
Fran has been extensively involved in emergency and trauma education throughout his training. He regularly instructs on Advanced Life Support (ALS) courses throughout Australia as well as being an instructor on the Early Management of Severe Trauma (EMST) course.
Fran is currently coordinating the clinical components of the Masters of Trauma and Masters of Emergency Medicine, a joint venture of the Alfred, NTRI and Monash University
Fran has previously been the Clinical Coordinator for the King Saud Medical City (KSMC) – The Alfred International Trauma Program.
He is also co-ordinating the implementation of new International Fellowships in Trauma and Emergency Medicine at The Alfred, as well as being a founding faculty member of the Alfred's Shock, Trauma and Resuscitation (S.T.A.R) Program.
Fran’s current research interests is focussed on optimal chest drain insertion as well as imaging of pelvic injuries in trauma patients. He also has a keen interest in emergency cardiac presentations and has conducted a number of studies and projects related to ischaemic chest pain.
Fran now splits his time working between both Ireland and Australia.
